Last week I got to visit with Elsie and her Principal Usha N. at Milpitas Adult School. Milpitas Adult School is located in close proximity to their district office and alternative education school. Elsie's classroom was nice, neat, and very welcoming. She is right next door to a fabulous tech lab and also has classroom access to google Chromebooks. There seems to be a lot of great technology available on campus.
Elsie is leading the way in a group of teachers who are also very tech savvy, with a primary project of working on a digital literacy program for English Language Learners, that spans multiple ability levels from true beginners to intermediate level technology users.
I am really excited to see how this project rolls out and think it is going to be a very useful tool for both the students at Milptias and also for other educators in the field who might want to model a program after this one. We all know how important technology is, and that it is essential to every day living, from using a smart phone, to applying for a new job, communicating with a child's teacher to taking the GED exam. There is a lot of work to be done!
Elsie is also a lead in creating and implementing the school's technology plan. Elsie is going to be a very busy person this year and boy, are the students, teachers and administration lucky to have her energy, enthusiasm and expertise in 2015-16!
Check out Elsie's webpage - chalk full of resources, happy students.
